Worth the wait. About half an hour of waiting, we watched the uncle deftly add charcoal to the fire, fry the flat white noodles till slightly brown, sprinkled with chinese sausages and medium sized prawns…DELICIOUS! Wondering why being a Penangnite for so many years, we never realized that there is such a stall at Siam Road.

If you have time to wait this is the stall for ‘Char Koay Teow’ (Fried Flat Rice Noodles) in Penang. There’s much hoo-hah with regards to another stall at Lorong Selamat but this old man beat it hands down! He has a mobile cart along the side of the road. Apparently there are days where the line up is around…

Reached Jalan Siam at 3pm on a Friday and the stall is not here yet. The standard procedure is to find a seat at the nearby Hock Ban Hin coffeeshop (known as Kedai Kopi Hock Ban Hin in Malay) and order a drink. This coffeeshop has no other food stalls – all the customers are here for the Charcoal Char Koay Teow
