Coming year 2013, Penang World Music Festival (PMWF) is presenting 2 full nights of global music and culture as we bring music lovers to the Penang Botanic Gardens’ Quarry Park on the 30th and 31st of March 2013. By featuring a mix of well-known international and local musicians, performing a fusion of traditional and contemporary music, fans of the first PWMF can expect the same authentic musical experience or better!
The beautiful landscape of the Quarry Park will provide a nature-themed backdrop for the open-air festival which will start from 2pm with art and music workshops followed by the main programme from 7pm onwards. There will also be a festival bazaar on site, offering a wide selection of food and beverages, souvenir items, handicrafts and the performers’ CDs specially for festival-goers.
A total of 19 local and International musical groups entertained the audience with a wide variety of music, ranging from African percussions, Mongolian throat singing and melodious Polynesian music to Salsa, Gypsy, Celtic and music, and bouncy Irish tunes. The groups were Rentak Balai from Negeri Sembilan, Will Crummer and The Rarotongans from New Zealand, Wild Marmalade from Australia, Guinee Percussions from West Africa, Loyko from Russia, Maite Hontele from Columbia, Kalja Riddim Klan from Vanuatu, Aseana Percussion Unit from Kuala Lumpur, Gus Teja World Music from Bali, Tori Ensemble from South Korea, Penang’s very own Dhol Blasters and more!
